The Death of Major Peirson - Launch Event
The Death of Major Peirson, 6 January 1781 is a large oil painting by John Singleton Copley, painted in 1783. It depicts the death of Major Francis Peirson in the Battle of Jersey on 6 January 1781.
Jersey Heritage must be congratulated for organising the loan of this painting from the Tate Gallery until 30 December 2012.
This blog can not do the magnificent exhibition and painting justice and you really must discover the most important painting in the history of the Island for yourself at the Jersey Museum.
